Pros:
  • Strong engine lineup, unmatched off-road ability, balanced handling, long list of advanced safety equipment, solid warranty.
Cons:
  • Hard plastic interior surfaces could use some padding, less cargo capacity than most midsize SUVs.

Trail Rated 4.7 V8 w/trailer tow package best bet. In 45 years of driving (almost all 4x4/awd) my JGC Laredo is one of the best highway cruisers Ive ever owned. I live in Winnipeg, MB, Canada and Ive never understood why everyone doesnt own a 4x4/awd vehicle. It pulls my boat (1500 lbs) and I dont even know its attached. My son from Calgary is buying the Jeep from me because after looking for a newer vehicle, both in Calgary and Winnipeg, my Jeep came up "best" as a vehicle for the next 2-3 years as the auto industry goes thru some major changes. Now I have to do the looking for a replacement and the Jeep GC is the only NA vehicle Id consider. Ext. warranty hasnt been needed yet.

  • Best SUV for the money - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I went back and forth, and finally decided on the Jeep. No problems so far, except I think the transmission needs a little work ... seems to jump around 40mph and 60mph. Other than that the only problem I had was a rattling sound that I think is coming from the emergency brake hitting the console. Overall I really love my Jeep and everyone that has seen it has like it as well. Good SUV for the city!

I am amazed at reading comments that say there are blind spots, or cheap plastic trim, or low windshields or uncomfortable seats etc etc. Youd think none of these owners, ever test drove their vehicles before buying them. If youre fat or short or tall, a Jeep is never the right purchase - simply not enough adjustibility. Its made for the average buyer at an average price and has average reliability, fuel economy and comfort. Some seem to think that buying a US car means something more than mediocrity. It doesnt. So either buy a decent car at a decent price, or wake up about what a Jeep is all about.

Reliable 2nd or 3rd vehicle, perfect for hauling, hunting, fishing or just running errands

As others have mentioned, when I purchased the vehicle it was getting over 18 miles to the gallon city. I am not a lead foot and after tank of gas #3 it is down to 12-13 miles to the gallon according to the vehicles own trip computer. At this point I am taking it back to the dealership for a diagnostic test. I love the car, but if they cant correct the problem I will pursue the "Lemon Law" option since I wont be able to afford to drive it.

  • Not as happy as i should be - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This was my first new car and second Jeep. I owned a 97 Wrangler with 132,000 miles on it before I bought this one. I have to say the new Grand Cherokee is in my opinion the best looking midsize suv on the market now. The ride is very smooth in this suv and highway driving is a pleasure. I had a chance to take it offroad once on the beach and was so impressed by it. It seemed to go through the sand even better than my Wrangler. I thought that by having AWD it wouldnt be as good but I was wrong. Now for the bad. The 3.7 v6 seems to run very rough and loud all the time. My steering wheel actually shakes at idle. It runs rougher than my old Jeep. Transmission shifts at the wrong time and gas mileage stinks.

  • Good Mid-Size SUV - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Ive had my Jeep 18 months now and after initially being in the shop 6 times for transmission problems, the recall finally came out and the problem was fixed. I put this down to teething problems with a new model. Since then, this SUV has been fine as a family vehicle. Great ride and handling for an SUV. Interior a little dull - Jeep could have used better grade plastics on the trim. Overall, this SUV does the job and looks good.

  • Initial thoughts - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Only driven a few miles. But I thought Id compare to previous 96 and 99 models I owned. I tested the Pilot, which handled typically like a front wheel drive bus, and both V8 & 6 cyl 4Runners, which drifted all over the road at highway speeds, and settled for another JGC because of in- laws employee discount and several rebates (financing, military, and general= $2500). Options included tow pkg. (class IV), 28F (v8), cargo grp. Stickered $32+K paid $26K plus taxes & plates.

  • If MPG doesnt matter, youll LOVE this - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Terrific look, ride & feel. Sirius and GPS are nice perks too. Controls are easy to reach and adjustments are a snap. My only complaint is the stated MPG ratings are baloney. Driving almost exclusively on the highway at a steady 75mph, the best I can do on a tank of gas is 17mpg. Other than that, Im VERY happy with my new wheels.

I have had the truck a year and a half. Its been a very good experience. It drives nice; however on turns I dont feel as if I have total control of the truck. Of course I am going 50-70 on turns but I still dont feel that the reliability on turns is there. In the snow the truck is a machine; I dont even have to plow or shovel -- just go right over it with no problem.
